Je Suis Arrière

I am finally home, after a twenty hour car ride from Colorado. I basically froze my ass off the entire time; it snowed every day. The skiing was amazing, except for the time I flipped over a tree and got stuck in three feet of powder..but that's another story. The memory cards on both of my cameras are packed with photos (over a thousand), so keep scrolling down.

Sorry for the overload of mountain pictures; there wasn't much else to photograph. I wish I had taken pictures of the..diverse people..on the ski slopes (one man in a coconut bra and hula skirt, another in a chicken costume), but my hands were a bit numb from texting on the chairlift (bad idea).

Anyways, I hope everyone had/has a lovely Spring Break; mine's just about over.

And Happy (late) Saint Patrick's Day! Listening to drunk college kids attempting to sing the 99 bottles of beer song on the chairlift was quite amusing..

Kanako Sasaki is a Japanese photographer and is one of my favorites. Her photographs are almost indescribable...It is hard to label them all under one adjective.
Lovely? Yes.
Almost surreal? Yes.
Amazing? Definitely.

A few short questions:

Why do you love photography?
Photography unlocks the world. In photography, everything is multi-faceted and complex, the world is open for the photographer to manipulate and interpret on their own.

What kind of camera do you shoot with?
Canon D30

Favorite photographer?
Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz

Any future plans?
I plan to go to Art Center College of Design in the fall to study photography.

Yell for Yelle!

With her hypnotic beats and awesome style, who wouldn't want to yell for Yelle?

For those of you who do not know who Yelle is, Yelle is a French popstar who "rose to fame" on Myspace. Her sound has been described as "electropop," while some have compared it to "80's arcade." Either way, her songs are sure to find a way onto your playlist.

Yelle's album, Pop Up, can be found on iTunes. A few of my favorites are "Je Veux Te Voir" and "A Cause des Garçons." All of the songs on her album are in French, meaning I can hardly understand them. However, I have been listening to them nonstop.

A Few Short Questions:

Why do you love photography?
I like preserving the things in life that many people dismiss as unimportant.

What kind of camera do you shoot with?
I use a clunky old Cannon (but I am hoping to invest in a more professional camera soon), an Holga, a polaroid camera and a Pop-Cam. The last two are more for fun, spontaneous photos at parties though.

Favorite photographer?
I really like Patrick Demarchlier, his Oui! shoot for French Vogue was particularly eerie and beautiful.

Any future plans?
I want to be a fashion photographer when I "grow up" and I love styling my sister and friends and doing photo shoots. I think my portraits of people are much more striking but I dont feel comfortable posting pictures of my friends and family on the internet. Nevertheless I hope to get more of my work out there soon!
